Shop Small Biz

This is a lazy Sunday afternoon so I will try to make sense and not rant too much. I have just been so insanely obsessed with Etsy and anything handmade or vintage since the love of my life (Devon) started our shop and got me into pick’n. I have had issues with mass produced items and corporate greed long before I discovered Etsy, but the past few months it’s just all coming together.

The importance of buying handmade or vintage is just so pressing now. Supporting small businesses is increasingly critical in our current economy. This past holiday season Devon and I got almost 100% of our gifts from fellow Etsy sellers. People think buying from small business means spending more money, but that’s not always the case. Consumers need to check out other options and stop running directly to Wal-Mart, Target, Urban Outfitters, the Gap etc etc - even Ikea (we do have a decent amount of Ikea furniture though, but we don’t plan to shop there very much anymore).

Your local family-owned shops are struggling. Etsy sellers are trying to make a living. I just want the word to get out to those that aren’t aware. And one of the best thing about Etsy is that buying vintage, repurposed or upcycled goods helps save the planet too! It can’t get any better that that!!! :)

My newest obsession - Pinterest http://pinterest.com/bfunkyfinds/   - we plan on using it to promote other Etsy shops and support our fellow small business owners … and also to post some other cool/funny/interesting stuff floating around the internet.

Ok, so maybe this turned out to be a bit of a rant. I’ve never been good at being concise and I do like to talk a lot (Devon would attest to that). Point of my post: Buy vintage or handmade or upcycled. Check out Etsy. And check out Pinterest.
